I used teflon/plumbers tape to make sure my connections were sealed tightly so I would not lose air. At first the separator functioned great for about a year. Kept all of the moisture out of my air tools!

However, a year later the separator formed a crack in the acrylic housing and began leaking so much air out that it caused my compressor to turn on every 5 minutes ! I understand why they used acrylic so the person could tell if it was full of water and needed to be drained.

The point is however, acrylic, no matter how thick, is not designed to hold pressure above 50 PSI (Pressure Per Square Inch). And since most air tools require 90 PSI or more, the separator will not stand up to that pressure for very long.

I think it would make a better solution to make the separator out of metal, since it can hold up to great pressures more, and the person just needs to remember to drain their separator same time they drain their compressor.

In conclusion, I like these things when they work, however I don't recommend this product and I highly recommend the buyer to spend more money on a metal unit. That is all...

(More customer reviews)As of 7/17/10, I will have purchased and used this compressor to install a rooms worth of baseboard, toe molding and window trim, so I cannot speak to the longevity of it, but it is rated for 3000 hours.

I had never heard of GMC Power Equipment, but while visiting a local hardware store someone was purchasing this model. When the clerk fired it up, I could not believe how quiet it was, so I walked over to find out what kind of compressor the gentleman was buying.

When I arrived home, I checked the 'net for reviews, but could not find any. I did find out that GMC Power Equipment made an aluminum tanked version, which made the compressor even more tempting. The only negative I could find, and the reason I gave it four stars, is the relatively low CFM at 90 PSI. I'm splitting hairs here though, because my ultra-loud and heavy pancake compressor only manages 2.6 PSI at 90 PSI, which is plenty for finish trim nailers. Also, with this model being so quiet, you won't mind having it cycle to keep up with demand.

Needless to say I bought this compressor. When I picked it up, the clerk fired it up in the store and once again a crowd of guys gathered around to see which compressor was running so quietly. For something so quiet, it draws a crowd.

This compressor it is very well built and well balanced. It is also extremely quiet. Did I mention it's quiet? We're ta lking easily carry on a conversation while standing right in front of it quiet. It's amazing.

At this time I highly recommend this compressor. Unless you need the extra durability of the steel tanks (things slamming in the compressor all of the time), get the aluminum tank version for $10 more and save your back.

One thing I couldn't find online was the weight of the compressor. The aluminum version weighs about 44 pounds according the the Wii Fit board... don't tell my wife. :)

(More customer reviews)I just received and installed this valve on an 80gal, vertical tank compressor. It appears to be very well made, all brass and stainless steel valve materials. Of course the electronics are in plastic, but every thing seems very sturdy. This valve is an excellent value for the price, most automatic drain valves cost much more. I had been wanting to add an auto drain to my compressor for some time, but didn't because of the prices. When I found this on Amazon I was skeptical of the quality because of the low price. After receiving it and seeing how well it is made, I am very pleased. Since I just installed it, I can't report on how well it holds up, but I can see no reason it wouldn't.

(More customer reviews)If you think you would be buying a fairly decent compressor in purchasing a Coleman, you would be sadly mistaken. I purchased one two years ago. I have used it for perhaps a total of ten hours during that time using it with a nailer, a paint sprayer and keeping my car tires inflated. The cheap plastic piston ring failed and I found out yesterday that there is no replacement part available for it. This is one of the most likely parts to go bad and it is not available anywhere. You have to buy the "motor assembly" at $175.00 to replace what would have otherwise been a $10.00 or $15.00 part. Incredible!

(More customer reviews)I had purchased a new Chicago Pneumatic 3/4" impact and needed better CFM air flow than is provided by the 1/4" NPT 3/8" hoses that are most common. My only 1/2" air hose was 25' Goodyear "Red" hose and connected a small sandblaster, so I needed a second one for proper performance from my new 3/4" impact tool - and longer for my large home garage use. Of course, I also purchased new couplers and fittings to keep that flow high on my new 1/2 " air hose. I found the 3/8" x 1/2" NPT Dixon Air Chief Industrial I needed were in stock at Amazon, and purchased all of them I needed directly from Amazon to complement the new 1/2" air hose (the 1/2" hose purchased through Amazon from Buzzard Gulch Inc). I also purchased a new 50' 3/8" x 1/4" NPT air hose direct from Amazon at a great low price - too low to pass by. Both hoses arrived on the same day and in very quick order using standard shipping.

The lower prices here kind of made it a one stop shopping adventure at Amazon - one that saved me some cash! As for the 1/2" GoodYear air hose, it is Goodyear's yellow premium hose, and you can expect it to outlive the GoodYear red hoses and all of those by cheaper manufacturers. Okay, it also offered me exactly what I needed in my garage at a lower price than my now 10 year old Red GoodYear hoses - and the hose also came with quality brass 1/2" male hose ends that were well protected and undamaged. There's only one thing that bothers me, the hose looks so good I just have to wipe it clean to keep it from showing dirt, even though it is oil resistant - and I then roll it back up every time I use it. It has me hooked on that pretty yellow color. This is the 1/2" Yellow higher quality 300 PSI certified working pressure hose you would expect from GoodYear. The Yellow just shows dirt the good, but lower quality, Red GoodYear hoses (rated 250 PSI working pressure) don't show as well.

Here's a tip:

Use a swivel fitting snubber hose between your large air hoses and all tools - your large air hoses will last longer that way, and the swivel fitting snubber hoses often make tool use much easier. I found and purchased the 1/2" x 8' Legacy ZillaWhip here at Amazon to complement my 3/4 impact, and to make this new heavy Goodyear hose easy to work with. Enjoy the best, and ignore the rest.

Rather than lugging around my 50lb Emglo for smaller jobs, the thought of having a small unit made sense to me. The unit arrived intact and I immediately put it to use on a small 300 sq ft flooring job. It ran my BOSTITCH Flooring Cleat nailer at 80 psi with no problems. It is suprisingly quiet, light and easy to carry. Needless to say it worked fine with my finish nailer as well. While it will not replace my primary compressor, it's going to be nice on those jobs where high volume psi is not required. Out of curiosity, I'll probably try it out on my framing gun to see how it performs.

(More customer reviews)Wow! What a great compressor. It is very quiet for an air compressor. It's rated at 55 db, and I believe it. It's quiet enough for me to use it indoors to provide pressure to my Magma Star bullet luber/sizer. I ran it for over 15 minutes as per the manual for a break-in period, and it never got so hot as to be uncomfortable. Of the two pressures indicators, the left dial shows the tank pressure, while the right dial shows the output pressure. The black knob in the center is used to adjust the output pressure. Fit and finish of my unit is excellent. I highly recommend it, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

(More customer reviews)This compressor is quiet, sturdy and effective. It's the kind of equipment you never have to worry about, during use.
The noise level is somewhere around 5 to 7 Sones while compressing air. One of the better features of this compressor is the system with which the motor runs. If you keep your PSI high, the unit will store a good amount of air, and only have to run occasionally. Users who run lower PSI, such as scale hobbyists, will hear the motor more often.
My only complaints are fairly superficial: the suction-cup feet don't always hold the compressor down well enough, and the unit can rumble itself off your table if you let it. A swipe of alcohol on the cups and your desk will cure this problem. The much worse issue, though it likely won't effect any serious user, is the airbrush holster. After a short period of use, mine broke at the support base, becoming completely useless. This was easily solved by getting a dedicated airbrush holder. Still, users should never rely on the on-board holster.

I haven't used a lot of compressors, but of those i have, this is the finest.

(More customer reviews)We just ordered two more of these from Amazon (they are significantly cheaper at the moment than the local stores). These are the favorites among our construction company due to the light weight, durability, and the fact that they really don't kink.

For those of you who are just working around the house, any old hose will do. But for those of you in the professional arena, the lighter weight will be a blessing in the 8th hour wh en you're trying to get those walls up before dark so that you can get paid in the next draw. We stick with the 100 lenght because we are building hotels and such, besides going from the 50 to the 100 is only a few dollars difference and is worth it if it keeps you moving.
